Character info

The character

Kakuna is the cocoon-stage evolution of Weedle, known in the Pokémon series as a mostly stationary Bug and Poison type that evolves into Beedrill. It spends most of its time hanging from tree branches, hiding among leaves while its body hardens, as it waits for evolution. It is known for having very limited movement and relying on remaining undetected to survive.

This card

This is Kakuna from the 151 set, numbered 014/151 with rarity C, printed in Simplified Chinese with a Poké Ball reverse holo treatment. The illustration by nisimono shows two Kakuna clinging to a tree amid flowering vines, rendered with a glowing, pastel-toned background. The card displays the National Pokédex data for Kakuna, including its height and weight.

How it plays

This Stage 1 Pokémon has 80 HP and a Grass energy type. Its Ability, listed as 虫蛹防守 (Cocoon Defense), prevents this Pokémon from being affected by effects of attacks used by the opponent's Pokémon. Its attack, 刺痛 (Sting), costs two Colorless energy and deals 20 damage. It has a weakness to Fire type (×2), no listed resistance, and a retreat cost of three Colorless energy.

Authenticity

WinnTCG authenticated this card in hand, on the bench, against genuine Pokémon cards. It was checked four ways: light shone through it to check the core, its weight on a scale, its thickness measured, and its print pattern and surface texture under magnification.

How this card was graded

WinnTCG graded this card in hand, on the bench. The card was in our hands, and we sealed the case ourselves. We photographed it here under controlled light to show which card is in the case and where anything we marked sits on it.

If you are buying this slab: the grade is WinnTCG’s judgement of the card that was in front of us, and WinnTCG sealed this case. The photographs above are of that card. Compare them against what you can see through the case, because a case can be opened by anyone who has held it since.

The working behind this grade

Every grade here is published with its reasoning. The report states what each measurement returned, what the model proposed on each axis, where the grader disagreed with it, and every defect marked on the photographs above.
