Character info

The character

Magcargo is a Fire/Rock-type Pokémon known for its molten shell, which is actually a hardened crust over a body so hot its blood is magma. It evolves from Slugma and is known for being extremely fragile despite its fiery appearance, as its outer shell will crack and crumble if hit too hard. In the games it is recognized for its Weak Armor and Flame Body abilities.

This card

This is Magcargo ex, numbered 191 out of 167 in the Twilight Masquerade set, indicating it is a secret rare beyond the main set count. It is a Tera-variant Pokémon ex card with a full art holofoil crystal-pattern treatment. The illustration, by PLANETA Yamashita, depicts Magcargo in a glittering, fractured crystal style typical of the Tera treatment.

How it plays

This Stage 1 Tera Pokémon has 270 HP and a Fire typing, with a printed ability stating that as long as it is on the Bench, all damage done to it by attacks is prevented. Its first attack, Hot Magma, costs one Fire and one Colorless energy, deals 70 damage, and burns the opponent's Active Pokémon. Its second attack, Ground Burn, costs two Fire and one Colorless energy, deals 140+ damage, and has each player discard the top card of their deck, dealing 140 more damage for each Energy card discarded this way. It has a weakness to Water (x2), no listed resistance, and a retreat cost of three.

Card details confirmed

A card with this name and number exists in the public card catalogue, in Twilight Masquerade, a set of 167 cards, rarity SR. The details on this certificate match it.

Illustrated by PLANETA Yamashita and published 2024-05-24. Both come from the public catalogue, not from WinnTCG.

A catalogue match is not the authenticity check. It confirms the card is the card it claims to be. Whether it is genuine was checked separately, on the card itself; see Authenticity below.

About this card

#219 in the National Pokédex · a Generation II Pokémon · 171 different cards of it exist · it evolves from Slugma.

From the card and the public catalogue, not written by WinnTCG.

Authenticity

WinnTCG authenticated this card in hand, on the bench, against genuine Pokémon cards. It was checked four ways: light shone through it to check the core, its weight on a scale, its thickness measured, and its print pattern and surface texture under magnification.

How this card was graded

WinnTCG graded this card in hand, on the bench. The card was in our hands, and we sealed the case ourselves. We photographed it here under controlled light to show which card is in the case and where anything we marked sits on it.

If you are buying this slab: the grade is WinnTCG’s judgement of the card that was in front of us, and WinnTCG sealed this case. The photographs above are of that card. Compare them against what you can see through the case, because a case can be opened by anyone who has held it since.

The working behind this grade

Every grade here is published with its reasoning. The report states what each measurement returned, what the model proposed on each axis, where the grader disagreed with it, and every defect marked on the photographs above.
