Character info

The character

Alolan Raichu is the regional form of Raichu found in the Alola region, evolving from Pikachu. Known as the Mouse Pokémon, it is an Electric and Psychic type notable for surfing on its own tail. Its unique evolution and diet in Alola are said to be responsible for its altered appearance and abilities compared to the standard Raichu.

This card

This is Alolan Raichu, card 30 of 30 from the SM Trainer Kit set, printed in 2017 as a holo variant. The artwork, illustrated by 5ban Graphics, depicts Raichu riding a wave on its tail against a splashing ocean backdrop. The card carries a Stage 1 designation, evolving from Pikachu, and is marked with an uncommon rarity symbol.

How it plays

This Stage 1 Pokémon has 110 HP and a Lightning typing. Its first attack, Quick Attack, costs one Lightning energy and deals 10 damage plus 30 more if a coin flip results in heads. Its second attack, Electric Surfer, costs one Lightning and two Colorless energy and deals 70 damage. It has a weakness to Fighting type (x2), a resistance to Metal type (-20), and a retreat cost of one Colorless energy.

Card details confirmed

A card with this name and number exists in the public card catalogue, in SM trainer Kit (Alolan Raichu), a set of 30 cards. The details on this certificate match it.

A catalogue match is not the authenticity check. It confirms the card is the card it claims to be. Whether it is genuine was checked separately, on the card itself; see Authenticity below.

About this card

#26 in the National Pokédex · a Generation I Pokémon · 398 different cards of it exist · it evolves from Pikachu.

It only evolves to this form in the Alola region. According to researchers, its diet is one of the causes of this change.

Authenticity

WinnTCG authenticated this card in hand, on the bench, against genuine Pokémon cards. It was checked four ways: light shone through it to check the core, its weight on a scale, its thickness measured, and its print pattern and surface texture under magnification.

How this card was graded

WinnTCG graded this card in hand, on the bench. The card was in our hands, and we sealed the case ourselves. We photographed it here under controlled light to show which card is in the case and where anything we marked sits on it.

If you are buying this slab: the grade is WinnTCG’s judgement of the card that was in front of us, and WinnTCG sealed this case. The photographs above are of that card. Compare them against what you can see through the case, because a case can be opened by anyone who has held it since.

The working behind this grade

Every grade here is published with its reasoning. The report states what each measurement returned, what the model proposed on each axis, where the grader disagreed with it, and every defect marked on the photographs above.
