Character info

The character

Tapu Koko is one of the four guardian deities of the Alola region, introduced in the Pokémon Sun and Moon games. It is an Electric/Fairy-type Legendary Pokémon known for its speed, its role as protector of Melemele Island, and its tendency to appear unpredictably during key story moments. It is often depicted as fierce and territorial toward trainers who disturb its domain.

This card

This is Tapu Koko V, card number 050 out of 163 from the Battle Styles set, printed in 2021 as a holo rare in English. The artwork, illustrated by Akira Egawa, shows Tapu Koko diving downward amid a backdrop of crackling yellow lightning and warm red and gold tones. The card uses the V treatment with holofoil finish over the full illustration.

How it plays

Tapu Koko V is a Basic Pokémon with 210 HP and Lightning typing. Its first attack, Electro Ball, costs a single Lightning Energy and deals 40 damage. Its second attack, Spiral Thunder, costs two Lightning Energy and one Colorless Energy, dealing 20 damage plus 40 more for each Energy attached to all of the opponent's Pokémon. It has a weakness to Fighting-type attacks (x2), no listed resistance, and a retreat cost of one Colorless Energy. As a V Pokémon, it gives up two Prize cards when knocked out.

Card details confirmed

A card with this name and number exists in the public card catalogue, in Battle Styles, a set of 163 cards, rarity Holo Rare V. The details on this certificate match it.

Illustrated by AKIRA EGAWA and published 2021-03-19. Both come from the public catalogue, not from WinnTCG.

A catalogue match is not the authenticity check. It confirms the card is the card it claims to be. Whether it is genuine was checked separately, on the card itself; see Authenticity below.

About this card

Authenticity

WinnTCG authenticated this card in hand, on the bench, against genuine Pokémon cards. It was checked four ways: light shone through it to check the core, its weight on a scale, its thickness measured, and its print pattern and surface texture under magnification.

How this card was graded

WinnTCG graded this card in hand, on the bench. The card was in our hands, and we sealed the case ourselves. We photographed it here under controlled light to show which card is in the case and where anything we marked sits on it.

If you are buying this slab: the grade is WinnTCG’s judgement of the card that was in front of us, and WinnTCG sealed this case. The photographs above are of that card. Compare them against what you can see through the case, because a case can be opened by anyone who has held it since.

The working behind this grade

Every grade here is published with its reasoning. The report states what each measurement returned, what the model proposed on each axis, where the grader disagreed with it, and every defect marked on the photographs above.
