Questions
Everything here is answered somewhere else on this site as well. Where it is, there is a link to it, because a second copy of an answer is the copy that goes out of date.
Do you grade my game?
If it is a standard-size trading card, we will grade it. Most of what comes in is Pokémon, One Piece and Star Wars Unlimited. Magic, Lorcana, sports cards, Topps and Panini all go through the same hands and the same four axes.
What we cannot take is anything that is not a standard-size card: oversized promos, boxes, sealed product, and cards already sealed in somebody else’s case. If you are not sure, send us a photograph at hello@winntcg.com and we will tell you before you pay for anything.
What do I get back?
A grade with all four sub-grades behind it, a printed label with an NFC chip in it, an acrylic case, and a certificate page that keeps answering for as long as the slab exists. We grade the card itself, in hand; the photographs we take of it are published beside the grade, permanently, and so is the reasoning behind the grade. How it works walks the whole journey.
Will the case go yellow?
No. The case is acrylic, which stays clear in the kind of light that turns a lot of other clear plastic yellow. What you get lists everything else that comes back with the card.
How is the grade decided?
Four axes — centering, corners, edges and surface — and the overall grade is computed from those four rather than typed over them. The grading scale sets out what each number means and shows the arithmetic on a real card.
How long does it take, and what does it cost?
Both depend on which service you pick, and both are stated on the card for that service on the pricing page. Those figures are read live from our own catalogue, so the number you see there is the number you will be charged.
What is WinnTCG Sealed?
A card we photograph and seal in clear acrylic that will not yellow. You get the case, the printed label with its NFC chip, the published photographs and a certificate page that keeps answering. What you do not get is a grade: no sub-grades and no opinion on condition, and the certificate says so in as many words, where the grade would otherwise be.
Is my card covered while you have it?
Yes, to a limit that depends on the service you chose, and the limits are on the pricing page. A mail-in kit comes with a shipping label we bought and insured; a parcel you pack and send yourself is one we cannot insure or trace. Sending your card covers both.
How do I know a slab is really ours?
Tap the label with a phone, scan the QR code, or type the certificate number into the box on our home page. All three open the same page: the grade, the four sub-grades, and the photographs of the card. Verification explains why those photographs are the check that matters, and why a copied certificate number cannot fake them.
What if I disagree with the grade?
The photographs of the card and the full reasoning are published, so you can see the card we graded and where the grader landed on each axis. What the terms say about refunds is on the terms page, and it is worth reading before you send anything.
Do you buy or sell cards?
We sell some of our own, on Whatnot. Grading is a separate thing and we do not make offers on cards sent in for grading.
